We’ve got great news for fans of Analog Obsession! The developer is back with a new plugin called MythPre.
MythPre is a tube mic preamp intended to enhance the low end of your tracks to give that bass response we always crave.
The plugin has a gain-compensated input boost to determine the intensity of the saturation combined with four different input types: Mic, Line, DI, and Tone Shaper.
You can also shave the low and high end of the input signal to shape the sound before saturation to get some additional flexibility with the buttons labeled “HPF” and “LPF”.
MythPre has a pad to attenuate the input signal with -20dBs and a polarity switch labeled “PHASE” as well as a clean output knob to control the overall volume level.
To make it even better, MythPre has a selectable 4x Oversampling to reduce aliasing and get a different response at the cost of more CPU. Engaging oversampling is easy, just click the Analog Obsession label at the top of the plugin and make sure it turns red.

Like many of the newer Analog Obsession plugins, MythPre has a resizable interface (50% to 200%) by clicking and dragging the lower right corner.
MythPre is available to both macOS and Windows users, but please note that, to make the plugin work. Mac users require a graphic card that supports “Metal,” while Windows users require a graphic card that supports “OpenGL.”
It comes in VST3, AU, and AAX formats and can be downloaded easily from Analog Obsession’s Patreon page, where you can choose between installers or a handy Zip file for a quick manual install instead.
I personally always prefer the latter. Just export the file in your VST folder and there you have it.
I’ve been using Analog Obsession plugins for quite some time, and have several that find their way into my projects most of the time for some subtle saturation or dynamic processing.
The developer received some criticism earlier for breaking backward compatibility with new plugin updates, so my tip would be to keep every instance you’ve downloaded just in case. Especially if you’ve been working on important projects where recalls might be necessary down the road!
