In January 2024, AudioThing released the Philicorda plugin, emulating the Philips* Philicorda organ from the 1960s. Today, I have some good news for you.
The new free Philicorda update 1.2 is out now, which brings some great new features.

AudioThing Philicorda 1.2
The new Philicorda 1.2 update introduces a new multi-FX processor section with three effects: Roland-style tape echo, a vintage phaser, and a BBD-based flanger. Each effect has three distinct parameters, making them very flexible.
It also ships with a new standalone version and offers sustain pedal support. The new Philicorda 1.2 version also includes fresh presets by Ry Manning.
Last but not least, it also now supports macOS 15 Sequoia.
AudioThing Philicorda 1.2 is out now and is a free update for existing users. You can download the new version from the AudioThing website and the Apple AppStore.

Organs are fascinating. They come in small sizes for living rooms or studios and in huge sizes for churches or concert halls. What’s often forgotten is that organs are also synthesizers since the pipes can be viewed as massive oscillators. Hans Zimmer once described them as a huge, complicated Synthesizer.
But now we’re moving on to the smaller, studio-suitable organs. AudioThing has released Philicorda, a new cross-platform plugin that emulates a legendary small transistor organ.
AudioThing Philicorda
Philicorda is an authentic emulation of the legendary 1960s Philips* Philicorda organ. This plugin replicates the transistor-based sound of the later GM751 models, delivering the distinctively warm yet clear tones that made the Philicorda a classic.
AudioThing has replicated the original Top Octave Synthesizer circuitry of the Philicorda with its 12 oscillators for the upper octave notes, with ‘octave divider’ circuits generating lower octaves. Each oscillator generates a saw-like waveform by layering multiple overdriven sine waves (nearly squares) at different octaves and volumes.
Unlike sample-based instruments, Philicorda gives you full control over the modeled organ engine. This includes control over the pitch and master tune of each oscillator, as well as additional adjustable drift.
AudioThing Philicorda also features modeled vibrato circuit, sampled spring reverb, and two speakers. They used here sampling to achieve the same sound as the original hardware. They also added neat extra features like an overdrive, an envelope generator, leakage, bias, and key click.
First Impression
I have to admit, I’m not really an organ player or a big fan of the sounds in my own music. So, I can’t say much about it other than that the demos sound pretty good.
AudioThing Philicorda is available now for an introductory price of 29€ instead of 59€. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows. The iOS version with AUv3 support is on the AppStore for $11,99 instead of $19,99.
