Dusty Tube is a FREE Guitar Amp Simulator and Neural Amp Modeler Player

R.Jorj released Dusty Tube, a free guitar amp simulator plugin built on the Neural Amp Modeler.

Neural Amp Modeler is an open-source project that uses deep learning to create accurate models of amps and pedals.

Dusty Tube is a VST3 release for macOS and Windows.

To my eyes, Dusty Tube seems to be drawing some aesthetic inspiration from the early days of Fender amps.

There doesn’t seem to be an official audio demo available, but at least one user demo is available on YouTube.

However, as Dusty Tube functions as a Neural Amp Modeler player, you can bring in emulations for amps and pedals from different brands and eras, so it’s not limited to the vintage Fender sound.

The download process is pretty simple, as all you have to do is follow the download link to the KVR Audio hosting page and press the blue download button for macOS or Windows.

Then you’ll get a zipped download for your operating system of choice, all in one click.

The downloads are lightweight and come in at 7.4 MB for macOS and 5.2 MB for Windows.

R.Jorj has kept the Dusty Tube interface simple, with all the controls contained within a single panel.

The control scheme is quite modern, with various digital quality-of-life improvements included on the amp panel along with the traditional guitar amp controls.

The plugin has three main parts: the amp panel, stompbox, and speaker selector – all of which allow you to bring in Neural Amp Modeler emulations.

The speaker selector allows you to pick the IR for the left and right speaker individually, while the stompbox allows you to select and dial in a pedal.

The amp panel features five sections, which are the input, gate, EQ, reverb, and IR controls.

As Dusty Tube allows you to bring in various emulations from the Neural Amp Modeler, the sonic possibilities can extend to anything within the Neural Amp Modeler ecosystem.

Guitarists can access the Neural Amp Modeler tones via various means, including the hardware pedal solutions offered in products such as Dimehead’s NAM Player and Sonulab’s no-frills StompStation.

I reckon Dusty Tube would be a good choice for guitarists who want to access the Neural Amp Modeler sounds via a free software solution that comes in a pleasantly vintage, single-page plugin.
