Imaginando GRFX is a new granular FX plugin for macOS and Windows that refines its tones with multi-effects and advanced modulation.
Granular engines are very much in vogue. In hardware as well as software form. There are two variants: either a granular synth or a granular effect.
Imaginando from Portugal has now released a new granular effects processor for macOS and Windows with a unique feature set.
Imaginando GRFX
GRFX is a new granular effects processor for macOS and Windows, housing a rich feature set.
At the heart of Imaginando GRFX is a granular engine with classic controls such as grain size, grain envelope, division, frequency, etc. Next, you can find options to freeze the input buffer, manipulate its size, and slice it.
A unique and fun feature is the ability to randomize a part of the granular engine, giving you more unpredictable shimmer granular tones. The option to manipulate the grain routing based on probability is just as exciting.
It lets users direct grains to the two multi-effect engines, the Mixer, and dedicated Delay and Reverb sends—each with independent routing for rich, layered sonic results.
A look into the middle brings you to another important part of the granular engine, the harmonic triangle. It’s an interactive, three-point control panel that can be morphed with your mouse or a MIDI controller.
Depending on the parameters set, you can blend your sound into chords, arpeggios, and microtonal variations. Imaginando says it’s an interface for happy accidents.
Multi-FX and Cross-Modulation
Two full-featured multi-FX processors can further enrich the granular textures in Imaginando GRFX. Each slot offers a fully tweakable selectable filter, distortion, delay, EQ, chorus, phaser, bit crusher, and reverb.
Plus, you have dedicated delay and reverb sends, allowing you to use them in combination with two other algorithms. A flexible mixer with a dry/wet mix control and two return channels gives you more ways to control the entire processor.
If more complexity is desired, you can use an advanced modulation engine with four multi-wave LFOs with drag-and-drop and cross-modulation support. It’s great that you can map the modulation not only to the granular processor but also to the multi-FX parameters.
First Impression
Imanginando allowed me to take a closer look at the GRFX plugin in advance. It’s a lovely granular processor with many interesting routing options. I particularly like the harmonic section and the flexible modulation options that make your grains shine uniquely.
I plan to make my short plugin experiment videos again and think some demos for GRFX will also come here. It is currently a macOS and Windows plugin, but I hope they will release an iOS app in the future.
Imaginando GRFX is available now for an introductory price of 29€ instead of 39€ (25% OFF) until April 30, 2025. It runs as a VST, VST3, and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
If you buy GRFX at Plugin Boutique, you will get MOK Miniraze Synthesizer for free throughout April 2025.
