Noisy Fruits Lab Mango, Coco, Lemon, and Kiwi are new performance-oriented desktop and Eurorack MIDI & controllers.
Since the popularisation of Eurorack and the mass-market comeback of analog synths, MIDI and CV have become closely intertwined. Many MIDI controllers today offer traditional MIDI data and built-in MIDI-to-CV functionality. A perfect example of one that did this early on is the Arturia Keystep.
For those who only need knobs and faders, there are now several interesting new releases. Noisy Fruits Lab from Bavaria has released four new MIDI & CV controllers (Mango, Coco, Lemon, and Kiwi) with many assignable knobs, faders, and buttons.
Noisy Fruits Lab Mango, Coco, Lemon, and Kiwi MIDI CV Controllers
Mango, Coco, Lemon, and Kiwi are all new MIDI & CV controllers based on the same platform but differing in feature set.
The Mango is the flagship product of the new Noisy Fruit Lab range of MIDI & CV controllers. It offers 141 addressable controls, including potentiometers, encoders, LED faders, and buttons.
Each fader and many of the potentiometers have an adjustable CV output—32 in total—covering a range of 0- 5V or 0- 10V. According to Noisy Fruits Lab, the Mago controller comes with quality Rogan knobs, SIFAM encoder and slider caps, alpha pots, Elektron style encoders, and Bourns LED faders.
The buttons are momentary, low-profile LED buttons. Mapping of the controls is straightforward. A web and desktop editor is available to modify all MIDI-based parameters and create your own presets, including the CV outs. Mango is powered by a USB-C port with low current draw.
More MIDI & CV controllers
Lemon is the little brother of the Mango desktop MIDI CV controller. It offers eight channels with LED faders and potentiometers. Each parameter has a high-quality CV output that can output 0-5V or 0-10V.
Plus, there are 16 MIDI buttons and LEDs that can be mapped via the web editor. The TRS-DIN MIDI in/out sockets provide everything you need for your MIDI workflows.
Then, Noisy Fruits Lab KIWI is another MIDI and CV controller that packs Lemon’s feature set in a 40HP Eurorack module. Like Lemon, it has eight channels with LED faders and potentiometers, each with a CV output. TRS-DIN MIDI is also onboard.
One significant difference is that KIWI offers an OLED display for feedback on all adjustments plus a USB-B connector.
For those who prefer something more compact and simple, COCO might be the right MIDI and CV controller. It’s a 16HP module and offers only four channels with LED faders and potentiometers, each with a CV output. The buttons and LEDs are also fully addressable.
Further, you can also find a TRS DIN MIDI in/out that handles the MIDI operation and an A/B switches on the backside. Also, here, you can find two pin headers for attaching a display or more channels.
First Impression
At first glance, handy desktop and Eurorack MIDI & CV controllers. They can be particularly interesting for people who run hybrid setups and want to control their analog and gear without carrying many controllers.
