Superbooth 25: OXI One MKII is the successor of the beloved hardware sequencer with major new features, including eight tracks and more.

Hardware sequencers are often the center of a DAW-less, pattern-based setup. They combine MIDI and CV-based instruments into a single, unified whole. The OXI One is particularly popular because it offers a lot of functionality and programmability with a high level of visual feedback in a neat, sleek package.

After five successful years on the market, the sequencer is now entering its second life. Ahead of Superbooth 25, Oxi Instruments has announced the OXI One MKII with significant feature upgrades, including more tracks, more memory, and hardware control

OXI One MKII

Visually, the One MKII looks very similar to its predecessor, but there are differences. OXI One MKII has a larger OLED display, more function buttons, and pads to access the four extra tracks. The hardware also comes with an improved battery level indicator.

Yes, the second generation has eight sequencers instead of four, with up to 64 tracks. Then, it will get a new performance mode, an improved arranger mode, and an option to configure custom scales freely. Net is also the addition of new logic functions.

Still on board are the eight modulation lines per sequencer track, but thanks to the eight sequencer tracks, you now have 64 modulation lines. Same applies to the LFOs, giving you now 16 LFOs in total. According to OXI Instruments, aftertouch animations will not be available, which is a shame.

The upcoming OXI One MKII also has all the popular features of the latest firmware updates, including advanced generative tools with its arpeggiators.

Alongside the extra CV/gate outputs for four extra tracks, another addition is a microSD card slot to store infinite projects, grooves, and scales. It also ships with a new OXI app for better integration and user data management. Plus, it comes with two extra CV inputs.

In case, you use an extensive range of MIDI instruments, there is also a OXI Split V2 expander that gives you up to 6 MIDI ports and 96 MIDI channels. Other features of the OXI One MKII are:

  • innovative and unique accumulator and repeat engines
  • Groove engine – create, share and import your own grooves
  • FLOW – Add an extra layer of performance
  • instantly load any of the 20 projects from the internal storage
  • huge Instruments database with user created definitions
  • enhanced logic conditions
  • tons of randomization options (MKI)
  • Euclidean & drum pattern generators (MKI)
  • ….

First Impression

The OXI One MKI sequencer offers a very well-rounded package. Many classic and modern inspiring features, a positive update policy and a very accesible operation. The MKII version looks like an excellent development, especially now with four extra tracks and more hands-on control.

I’m curious whether the MKII will be offered for the same price or more expensive. In forums, I hear something about 1000€ which would be significantly more than the MKI.

OXI One MKII will be showcased at Superbooth 25. Availability and price are TBA.
